DHC Cleansing Oil Review

Product: DHC Deep Cleansing Oil

Category: first cleanse

Price: $13.99 USD (at my local Target)

Size: 2.3 fl oz/70 mL

Ingredients: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Pentylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil

This is one of the most readily available oil cleansers out there — really the best of the “drugstore” options in the US, despite DHC being a Japanese beauty brand.

I used this last night for the first time (I’m only cheating on you temporarily, Banila balm, I promise). I found that it took four pumps to really feel like I had enough oil to cover my entire face and neck and be able to massage — otherwise I didn’t have enough slip. It did smell like olive oil, but that’s no surprise. It emulsified well, which is now my biggest thing to look for after I had issues with the Biossance Cleansing Oil. Between its own emulsification and then going in with my Peach & Lily cleanser, I seem to have effectively gotten all of it — and all of my sunscreen — off. It didn’t sting my eyes, either, though I didn’t wear mascara yesterday so perhaps I didn’t test it rigorously enough.

This is one of LA Beautyologist’s suggested oil cleansers, but she recommends it for dry skin. Normal/combination skin types will probably also be fine with this, but oilier types should look for something with a different primary oil. (I’m normal to dry).

Conclusion: It’s fine. If you’re afraid to take the plunge and want something basic and to get into the oil cleansing product category, go for it. They do have smaller sizes than this available. That said, if you have the coin and know that you like oil cleansing, you might as well go for one of the more interesting formulations NOT available in the drugstore, and you may even save a bit per mL.
